Professor Alexander Battler

Professor Battler received his MD from the Hebrew University and Hadassah Medical School in 1972. He was the founder and first director of the Neufeld Cardiac Research Institute of the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University and Sheba Medical Center. In 1993, he became director of the Cardiology Department of the Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheba, the incumbent of the Andre Feher Chair of Cardiology and Professor of Cardiology at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Ben Gurion University. In 1996, he was appointed Chairman of the Ben Gurion University Cardiac Research Center. He is currently the Director of the Cardiology Department at the Rabin Medical Center. He is also Professor and Chairman of Cardiology at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University.

In addition to his clinical and academic activities Prof. Battler is Chairman of the Israeli National Council for Prevention and Treatment of Cardiac and Cardiovascular Diseases. He is also the Chairman of the PR Committee and Board Member of the European Society of Cardiology. Professor Battler is the Past President of the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy and of the Israel Heart Society.

Prof. Battler is the author of more than 150 original articles, and is a frequently invited lecturer at international meetings. His main fields of research include regenerative cardiology, intramyocardial therapies, and myocardial remodeling. He was one of the first cardiologists in the world to use cellular therapy for heart disorders.

Professor Michael Belkin

Michael Belkin is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Tel Aviv University and the director of the Ophthalmic Technologies Laboratory at the University's Eye Research Institute at the Sheba Medical Center. He was awarded a master's degree in science by Cambridge University, England, and received a doctorate in medicine from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Prof. Belkin served previously as:

  1. Founder and first full-time director of the Tel Aviv University Eye Research Institute
  2. Chairman of the Tel-Aviv University Department of Ophthalmology
  3. President of the Israel Society of Eye and Vision Research of which he was one of the founders.

Dr. Belkin is an active, long-standing member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the International Society of Eye Research, the Biomedical Optics Society section of the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE), the American Glaucoma Society, and many others. He is the author of over 200 scientific publications that received various research awards. He has served and is serving as chairman and member of various international professional committees and scientific journals' editorial boards.

Professor Suphachai Chaithiraphan

Professor Suphachai Chaithiraphan received his MD from the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital in1964 and was received as a diplomat of Internal Medicine & Cardiovascular Disease Specialist from the United States of America; Professor Suphachai served and is serving as President and member of various national and international professional societies as follows:

  • President of The Heart Association of Thailand under The Royal Patronage
  • Former President of The Royal College of Physician of Thailand, under The Royal Patronage
  • The Secretary General of Thailand Heart Foundation under The Royal Patronage

  • Fellow, American College of Physicians (FACP)
  • Fellow, American College of Cardiology (FACC)
  • Fellow, American College of Chest Physicians (FACCP)
  • Fellow, Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP)

He is currently Chairman of the Executive Board of Chao Phya Hospital Public Company Limited and Director of The Chao Phya Cardiac Unit. He is also a consultant to the Cardiac Center, Bangkok General Hospital, BNH Hospital, and Siriraj Hospital.

Professor Aaron Ciechanover

Professor Ciechanover received his MD from Hebrew University and Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem, Israel in 1974 and was a graduate in D. Sc. from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel in 1981. He was the Director of The Rappaport Family Institute for Research in the Medical Sciences at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and is currently serving as a Distinguished Professor at the same place. Recognized as one of the best experts in biochemistry, Professor Ciechanover is frequently invited as a visiting professor to many renowned academic institutions worldwide and is a permanent member of several national and international associations such as The Council of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), Asia-Pacific International Molecular Biology Network (IMBN), European Academy of Arts and Sciences, etc.

Professor Ciechanover has authored more than 150 scientific articles and patents. He was granted the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2004 together with Prof. Avram Hershko and Prof. Irwin Rose for the discovery of the ubiquitin intracellular pathway.

Professor Tsvee Lapidot

Prof. Tsvee Lapidot, a renowned expert in the field of hematopoietic stem cells holds the Edith Stein Immunology chair at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the International Society of Experimental Hematology. Prof. Lapidot is on the editorial boards of several leading scientific hematology journals and has received numerous awards for his scientific achievements. He is widely recognized as a human stem cell biology expert, having participated in the development of a pre-clinical immune deficient (NOD/SCID) mouse model for normal and leukemic human stem cells. He has published many articles on stem cell biology in leading journals such as Science and Nature Immunology and has been an invited speaker at important scientific conferences. Prof. Lapidot holds MA and PhD degrees from The Weizmann Institute.

Professor Ren-Ke Li

Professor Ren-Ke Li is Professor of Surgery in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Toronto, and also heads a research group at the Division of Experimental Therapeutics, Toronto General Hospital Research Institute. He is a leader in the development of cell therapies for cardiovascular diseases, and one of the pioneers in the field. Professor Li is the author of numerous articles on the subject in prestigious scientific and medical journals.

Professor John Marshall

Professor Marshall graduated from London University in 1965 and received his Ph. D in 1968. During 1982 - 1991, Professor Marshall was the Sembal Professor of Experimental Ophthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology. Presently, he is serving as the Frost Professor of Ophthalmology, Chairman of the Academic Department of Ophthalmology at St. Thomas's Hospital, and Chairman of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board, and Trustee of the British Retinitis Pigmentosa Society. Professor Marshall has been pursuing his research concerning the development of lasers for ophthalmic diagnosis and surgery for thirty years, leading to the emergence of the Excimer laser for correcting refractive disorders and the first Diode laser for treating eye problems among patients with diabetes, glaucoma, and aging.

Professor Marshall has been awarded from many renowned medical institutes worldwide such as the Nettleship Medal of the Ophthalmologic Society of the United Kingdom, the Barraquer Medal of the International Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Kelman Innovator Award of the American Society for Refractive and Cataract surgery, the Lim Medal of the Singapore National Eye Centre, etc.

Professor Naphtali Savion

Prof. Savion holds a Doctorate in Biochemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Cancer Research Institute of the University of California. For the past 20 years he has led a research group at Tel Aviv University which was awarded $850,000 for its research activities, and has led other R&D projects with a total budget of over $1.6 million. He has published over 120 papers in leading professional journals and has participated in more than 60 international meetings. He registered four patents and is one of the Founders of the Start-Up company Matis Medical. Prof. Savion is a cell biology expert, who specializes in the fields of vascular biology, growth factors, bone cells in culture, and cells-extracellular matrix interaction. Prof. Savion is serving as a scientific consultant to several life science companies.
