Joe wants you to call him at 214-697-0086.
Why the both of them? Well, Joe is the heart patient, but these two Texans fit together like Bogart and Bacall, or maybe like Troy Aikman and Michael Irwin.
First the diagnosis: Ischemic CHF + Cardiomyopathy. Diabetes.
History: Heart attack, balloon angioplastys, bypasses, defibs, ten years of sleep apnea.
I met them just before the surgery. They were different! Most are nervous at this point but Joe said he would set a record for fastest recovery and Judy smiled and nodded. OK, I thought, positive attitude can help positive results happen, but this was not simply attitude.
The day after the surgery, the one day of pain in this procedure, still in CCU, Joe was wondering why he wasn’t in his room yet---HE was ready to fly back.
Back home, at 3-weeks: “Pt very active, plans to stay that way.”
At 5 weeks: “Spoke w/pt, he said he's doing good, no more tiredness.”
At 7 weeks, Joe had this rarely duplicated report: "He's extremely busy, said his only problem is he can't sleep and that is because he doesn't seem to get tired.
He gave example of pre sc tx/post sc tx, as follows. Pre tx he went to lake property to cut down dead trees, did about half of one, had to stop. Just recently, post tx, went w/friend to lake property and worked from 8:30A - 4:30p, cut down about 10 trees and never felt tired. He has some SOB occasionally but he says he thinks that is more from him being out of shape. Pre stem cells he would have to take a nap about 1PM daily; sometimes, 2-3 naps. Pt does not nap now and as stated above, has a hard time going to sleep, doesn't require that much."
But the best “report” of all came from Judy in an email at the 11 week mark:
"Good Evening from Texas!
Thanks for such a quick & supportive reply. Joe wants to know if you can take out some of his stem cells.......He has TOO much energy. Before the procedure he would take 3 naps a day due to no energy. Now, he goes all day, all over the city & countryside, and really isn't tired at bedtime....pretty amazing stuff you're doing!
Judy"
